VFC Silly Season 2027: Who Will Drive Where? – Part 1 | Positions 13 to 7

The 2026 season is not over yet, but behind the scenes attention is already turning towards 2027. Some decisions for the upcoming VFC season have already been made, while other teams appear to at least have a general direction in mind – and elsewhere, the driver market remains completely open.

For a look into the crystal ball, we asked three members of the VFC Media Team for their predictions: Jörn Dicks, Daniel Scott and Sven Schubert shared their thoughts on which drivers could end up where in 2027.

In the first part of our VFC Silly Season preview, we work our way up the current Constructors’ Championship standings from the bottom: starting with Arrow Racing in 13th and finishing with Ottimale EM in seventh.

And it is not just potential driver changes that are up for discussion. For two teams, there is an even more fundamental question: will they still be part of the VFC grid at all in 2027?

13th: Arrow Racing – Business as usual?

There is almost complete agreement when it comes to Arrow Racing.

Both Sven Schubert and Jörn Dicks expect Stefan Cerne and Markus Leonhardt to remain with the team for 2027.

Schubert describes another Cerne return as something of an annual tradition by now. It would therefore hardly be a surprise to see Arrow enter another season with its familiar driver pairing.

Should something change within the team after all, Christian Dittmer could be among the possible alternatives.

For now, however, continuing with Cerne and Leonhardt remains the most likely scenario.

Possible candidates: Stefan Cerne, Markus Leonhardt, Christian Dittmer

12th: SimSpark Racing – The end after 2026?

The question marks are considerably bigger at SimSpark Racing.

Both Sven Schubert and Jörn Dicks expect the team not to be on the VFC grid in 2027.

Daniel Scott also sees SimSpark, alongside SVL, as one of the teams that could potentially make way for a new and perhaps more competitive entry.

As a result, there are currently no specific drivers being linked with a SimSpark seat for 2027.

Recently, however, a cooperation with G Racing was launched with the aim of taking the team in a more professional direction. Whether that partnership will ultimately deliver the desired results remains to be seen.

The key question here is therefore less “Who will drive?” and more: Will SimSpark be on the grid at all?

Possible candidates: None

11th: SVL Racing – Also heading for the exit?

Just one position further up the standings, the situation does not look much different.

Sven Schubert and Jörn Dicks currently do not expect SVL Racing to return for the 2027 season either. Daniel Scott also names SVL as one of the teams that could potentially make way for a new entry.

Should those predictions prove correct and both SimSpark and SVL disappear, two places on the VFC grid would suddenly become available.

That could have a significant impact on the driver market, as new teams could bring completely new drivers into the championship or provide an opportunity for former VFC competitors to return.

At present, however, there are no concrete candidates for SVL.

10th: Spinardi – The restart is already confirmed

There is far less need for speculation when it comes to Spinardi.

The team is set for a complete overhaul and will compete under the new name Smile Power Racing in 2027.

The driver question has already been answered as well: James Andrews will not only take over as team principal but will also continue behind the wheel. He will be joined by Mike Bell.

That makes the team one of the first on the grid to have already completed its plans for the upcoming season.

While several rival teams still have multiple drivers potentially fighting over available seats, Smile Power Racing can already begin preparing for 2027 with certainty over its line-up.

9th: Falcon Simracing – Falkenhain the cornerstone

At Falcon Simracing, there is at least broad agreement on one name: Michael Falkenhain is expected to remain a central part of the team in 2027 – provided his hardware issues can finally be resolved.

The second car is considerably more open.

Sven Schubert believes a return for Jan Wiegels could be possible should he leave Horizon Motorsport. Jörn Dicks also considers Falkenhain likely to remain while expecting Maleika to depart.

Alongside Wiegels, Christian Dittmer could also emerge as an option.

Another particularly interesting possibility is Fabian Walter. Should he leave Razor GP, Falcon would be an obvious potential destination given his history with the team.

A lot at Falcon could therefore depend on what happens further up the grid. A decision at Razor or Horizon could directly influence who lines up alongside Falkenhain in 2027.

8th: Blue Horns Racing – The most sought-after vacant seat?

At Blue Horns Racing, at least one seat appears relatively secure: Jörn Dicks is expected to continue driving for his own team in 2027.

The second car is where things become significantly more interesting.

Both Sven Schubert and Dicks mention Heiko Kolvenbach as a possibility. Following his announced departure from Optiminal, Blue Horns could be a logical new destination.

Fabian Szyrzik also appears to remain interested in a seat with Dicks. Then there is Tim Brendel, who currently drives for the team but is simultaneously being mentioned as a potential candidate for a return to Razor.

Another name that should not be overlooked is Chris Gitsov. Talks between Gitsov and Blue Horns over a seat for the 2026 season had already taken place last winter, before the team ultimately decided to sign Tim Brendel. Should the second seat become available again, those previous discussions could suddenly become relevant once more.

And Tim Hauck, following his announced departure from Ottimale, is another driver who could theoretically be of interest to Blue Horns.

Dicks therefore has a wide range of potential options – and the second Blue Horns seat could become one of the most interesting drives available during this year’s Silly Season.

7th: Ottimale EM – Johann Asanger alongside Stefan Schubert?

Following the announced departure of Tim Hauck, Ottimale EM is set for a reshuffle.

There is agreement between Sven Schubert and Jörn Dicks on one name: Stefan Schubert is expected to remain part of the team in 2027.

For the second seat, both independently identify Johann Asanger as a possible solution. Sven Schubert also points to the fact that the two already know each other from another league.

Among all the currently unconfirmed pairings, Stefan Schubert / Johann Asanger is therefore one of the predictions on which the opinions overlap most clearly.

Another possibility, however, could be team principal Roy Seifert himself. If the team is unable to find the right solution externally, an internal option could also be on the table.

At the same time, it will be interesting to see where Hauck ends up. His move could have consequences for several teams, with Blue Horns and Optiminal in particular emerging as potential destinations in our predictions.

Possible candidates: Stefan Schubert, Johann Asanger, Roy Seifert

Two potential departures and several open seats

Even the lower half of the current Constructors’ Championship demonstrates just how much movement there could be ahead of the 2027 season.

With SimSpark Racing and SVL Racing, the future of two entire team entries is currently in question. Spinardi, meanwhile, has already prepared its restart as Smile Power Racing, while important personnel decisions remain unresolved at Falcon, Blue Horns and Ottimale.

The second Blue Horns seat in particular could become one of the key pieces of the driver market.

But the biggest domino effects may still be to come.

And several names appear again and again: Jan Wiegels, Fabian Walter, Tim Brendel, Heiko Kolvenbach and Tim Hauck could ultimately shape the entire 2027 driver market.
