VFC Silly Season 2027: Who Will Drive Where? – Part 2 | Positions 6 to 1

5 min read

In the first part of our VFC Silly Season 2027 preview, we worked our way through the current Constructors’ Championship standings from Arrow Racing in 13th to Ottimale EM in seventh.

Now it is time for the top six – and with them some of the most intriguing personnel questions of the entire driver market.

While Rookie Monsters has already confirmed its line-up and few changes are expected at VEGA or Seawolf, the decisions made by Horizon, Razor and Optiminal in particular could trigger a domino effect across the grid.

Once again, the predictions come from Jörn Dicks, Daniel Scott and Sven Schubert of the VFC Media Team.

6th: Rookie Monsters – The line-up is set

There is no longer any need to speculate when it comes to Rookie Monsters.

The team has already confirmed its driver pairing for the 2027 season: Robin Moelling and Daniel Scott will race together for Rookie Monsters.

That makes the team one of the first on this year’s driver market to have already established complete clarity over its line-up.

Scott will join Rookie Monsters for the upcoming season, while Moelling remains with the team.

While several rivals are still facing numerous unanswered personnel questions, Rookie Monsters can already build its 2027 preparations around a confirmed driver pairing.

Confirmed: Robin Moelling, Daniel Scott

5th: Seawolf NetRace Motorsport – Woitala and Gielzynczki the clear favourites

There is no difference at all between the predictions of Sven Schubert and Jörn Dicks when it comes to Seawolf NetRace Motorsport.

Both expect Alex Woitala and Benjamin Gielzynczki to remain the team’s driver pairing for 2027.

Should that prove correct, Seawolf would be one of the teams where very little change is currently expected.

No other serious candidates are being discussed at present. As things stand, everything points towards Seawolf opting for continuity and entering the new season with its established driver line-up.

Possible candidates: Alex Woitala, Benjamin Gielzynczki

4th: Horizon Motorsport – Jan Wiegels’ decision could change everything

One of the most important names on the entire driver market could be Jan Wiegels.

Sven Schubert believes Wiegels could remain with Horizon Motorsport. Should that happen, he sees Fabian Walter as a possible teammate – recreating a pairing that already raced together in 2023 and 2024.

Jörn Dicks also expects Wiegels to remain at Horizon, although he leaves the identity of the second driver open.

Alongside Walter, there is another intriguing possibility: Horizon could use the vacant seat to bring someone from outside the championship into the series, giving a VFC debutant an opportunity.

Horizon’s decision could simultaneously have major consequences for other teams.

Should Wiegels leave, he could become a candidate for a return to Falcon Simracing. If Fabian Walter were to leave Razor, meanwhile, both Horizon and Falcon could become attractive options for him.

That makes Horizon one of the teams whose decision could directly influence several other seats on the grid.

Possible candidates: Jan Wiegels, Fabian Walter, external VFC debutant

3rd: Razor GP – Continuity or change?

Opinions also differ when it comes to Razor GP.

Sven Schubert considers Bastian Paisler a very likely candidate to remain with the team for the 2027 season. The second car, however, could go in several different directions.

One possibility would be a return for Tim Brendel, who already has history with the team. Heiko Kolvenbach could also become an option following his announced departure from Optiminal.

But Fabian Walter should not be forgotten either.

Jörn Dicks even believes Razor may make no changes whatsoever, with Walter simply remaining at the team. Continuing with the current line-up therefore appears just as plausible as making a high-profile change.

Walter’s decision in particular could become important for the wider driver market. Should he leave Razor, both Falcon and Horizon would immediately emerge as possible destinations.

Tim Brendel’s future is closely connected to the situation as well: if he returns to Razor, a highly sought-after seat would simultaneously become available at Blue Horns.

Possible candidates: Bastian Paisler, Fabian Walter, Heiko Kolvenbach, Tim Brendel

2nd: VEGA – No reason to change

While speculation is running wild around several rival teams, the situation at VEGA appears considerably calmer.

Tom Oldenmenger and Mirco Mancini are the clear choices for 2027 according to both Sven Schubert and Jörn Dicks.

Schubert sees the pair as a well-established driver line-up by now – and unless an unexpected move shakes up the market, there currently appears to be little reason for VEGA to change anything.

No other names have featured in the speculation so far.

As a result, one of the championship’s most successful teams could opt for maximum continuity heading into 2027.

Possible candidates: Tom Oldenmenger, Mirco Mancini

1st: Optiminal Esports – Who will drive alongside Sven Schubert?

We finish with the current Constructors’ Championship leaders – and simultaneously one of the biggest question marks of the entire Silly Season.

At Optiminal Esports, one change for 2027 is already certain. Heiko Kolvenbach has announced that he will leave at the end of the season and is therefore no longer a candidate for the team next year.

Sven Schubert expects – or at least hopes – to remain with Optiminal in 2027. The identity of the second driver, however, is completely open.

Jörn Dicks puts Tim Hauck forward as a possibility. Following Hauck’s announced departure from Ottimale, a move to Optiminal would represent a logical next step: Hauck currently races for Optiminal’s junior team and could therefore progress within the organisation’s own structure.

Another interesting possibility could be Rouven Meschede. Whether he will genuinely emerge as a concrete option for Optiminal remains to be seen.

Daniel Scott also expects the situation at the championship-leading team to be interesting. His prediction that Kolvenbach and Hauck could potentially team up in 2027, however, would necessarily have to become reality elsewhere on the grid.

That leaves one major question: Who will secure one of the most attractive seats available for the 2027 season?

Possible candidates: Sven Schubert, Tim Hauck, Rouven Meschede

Who will trigger the domino effect?

After looking at all 13 teams, one thing becomes clear: the VFC driver market for 2027 could ultimately be shaped by a surprisingly small number of drivers.

In particular, Heiko Kolvenbach, Tim Hauck, Jan Wiegels, Fabian Walter and Tim Brendel appear as possible candidates for several different teams.

Will Walter remain at Razor or move elsewhere? Will Brendel return to Razor or stay with Blue Horns? Where will Kolvenbach end up after leaving Optiminal? Will Wiegels remain at Horizon or return to Falcon? And will Tim Hauck make the step from Optiminal’s junior outfit Ottimale into the senior team – or choose a completely different destination?

A single decision could quickly trigger several more.

At the same time, teams such as VEGA and Seawolf currently appear unlikely to make major changes, while Rookie Monsters and the future Smile Power Racing have already completely confirmed their driver line-ups.

And then there is still the question of the grid itself: Will SimSpark and SVL remain part of the VFC in 2027 – or could their departure create opportunities for entirely new teams and drivers?

Until the next contracts are officially confirmed, there remains plenty of room for rumours, speculation and surprises.

And as always during the VFC Silly Season:

One signature can change the entire grid.
