The first of five new teams entering the VFC in 2026 are the Scots from Spinardi. Led by team boss Daniel Scott, the outfit is preparing for its debut season — and early signs suggest they’re aiming high from the outset.
In an interview with Scott, we got a first glimpse into Spinardi’s approach, their pre-season strategy, and what they expect from their rookie year.
James Andrews was unavailable for an interview at the time of writing.
Welcome to VFC! Now that the pre-season upgrades are complete, how satisfied are you with what you have put together as a team?
Daniel Scott:
"I’m quite happy overall. We’ve gone for a very specific strategy. The idea is to keep the weight as low as possible — including the amount of fuel we need to bring to each race."
Is there any team that you’re particularly worried about?
Daniel Scott:
"Rookie Monsters have gone for a very similar concept as us, except they’ll be a little quicker with Engine 2. Some teams have also spent very little, so they’ll be strong in Q3/Q4."
What are your goals for the season?
Daniel Scott:
"We hope to get a podium this season, but regular top eights are what we’re shooting for. It’ll be a strong grid this season, so it’s an ambitious goal. Our minimum would be to beat RM, but that shouldn’t be an issue."
Are there any particular tracks you think your car will be particularly strong at?
Daniel Scott:
"We went for a very low-drag, low-weight car, so low-speed tracks should suit us. We didn’t go for downforce, so high-downforce tracks will be a struggle for us. Tracks with heavy fuel usage should also suit us."
You already competed in a few races last season — how did you initially get involved with VFC?”
Daniel Scott:
I was told by Rouven (Meschede) that he was no longer interested in doing SL2 because the VFC car was too fun. I tried it, fell in love, and started telling everyone that would listen that VFC was a great league — and so far I haven’t been wrong!
Spinardi is a team that used to participate in our league, Racing Pals, specifically the Formula Pals league. The team used to belong to Robin, but the man has no loyalty in his heart so I’ve taken up the mantle.
How do you prepare for a race? Do you have engineers? Or overlays?
Daniel Scott:
I tend to do an obscene number of practice laps. I think we calculated something like 13,000 practice laps in GPVWC last season. I usually use an engineer (and encourage everyone to do the same if they can), but my engineer is driving with me this season — so I will have to rely on my TinyPedal overlay!
Spinardi may be new to the VFC grid, but their approach already looks anything but cautious. With a clear low-weight, low-drag philosophy and ambitions of consistent top-eight finishes — plus the occasional shot at a podium — Daniel Scott’s squad could quickly establish itself as one of 2026’s most interesting new entries. Whether their efficiency-focused package can deliver across a varied calendar remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Spinardi are here to make an impact.
