What began as a normal negotiation ended up being one of the biggest controversies of the VFC year 2025. A story unfolded between Blue Horns team boss Jörn Dicks and driver Sven Schubert that was marked by misunderstandings, hasty conclusions and a public outburst.

January 2025: First talks

Right at the start of the year, Dicks made no secret of his interest: he was determined to sign Schubert for the 2026 season – partly to avoid repeating the mistake he made in the summer of 2024, when he failed to sign the Swabian in time. Schubert was open to talks, but remained tight-lipped.

March 2025: The offer

Things got serious between the Kuwait and South Africa Grand Prix. Dicks presented Schubert with an official contract offer. The terms and conditions were agreed upon in direct talks – quickly and seemingly smoothly.

June 2025: The fatal misunderstanding

After the French Grand Prix, Schubert told Dicks that he could imagine working together in principle. For Schubert, it was a sign of interest, nothing more – for Dicks, however, it was a definitive commitment. What began as a minor linguistic nuance would later escalate and cause turmoil in the scene.

August 2025: The Big Bang

On the 26th of August, the moment had arrived: Jörn Dicks proudly presented Sven Schubert as a new addition to the team for the 2026 season. What was the culmination of months of work for the team boss came as a bolt from the blue for Schubert – and in the middle of his holiday, no less. He did not learn of his alleged signing in a confidential conversation, but through the public announcement.

Just one day later, the backlash followed. Schubert released an unambiguous statement: I wont be driving for Blue Horns Racing next year.’ The bomb had dropped.

Adding fuel to the fire: just a few days later, there was a collision between Dicks and Schubert at the Dutch Grand Prix. The accident resulted in the Swabian driver being forced to retire and left a rather unpleasant aftertaste to the whole situation.

Aftermath and discussions

The consequences were not long in coming. Heated discussions broke out. Had Dicks misinterpreted the situation and acted rashly? Or had Schubert sent out careless signals, thereby creating the breeding ground for the misunderstanding himself?

One thing is clear: what had initially been a harmless negotiation phase turned into a full-blown scandal within a few days, causing lasting damage to the relationship between the driver and the team boss.

Conclusion & Outlook

The incident shows how thin the line between negotiation whispers and public commitment can be in VFC. Misunderstandings, unspoken expectations and the impatient search for a coup led to a scandal in this case that is likely to reverberate for a long time to come.

Paradoxically, the chaos could even have advantages for Sven Schubert: his name is now more in the spotlight than before, and other teams will be watching closely to see how he positions himself. Blue Horns Racing, on the other hand, not only has to repair the damage to its image, but also explain how this premature announcement came about.

It remains to be seen whether this episode will result in scorched earth or a second chance for both sides. One thing is certain: the contract saga surrounding Schubert and Blue Horns Racing has added an extra dose of drama to the 2025 VFC season – and is likely to remain a topic of conversation among fans and insiders for a long time to come.
