Match Point in Istanbul: Oldenmenger Eyes the VFC Title
Three races remain in the 2026 VFC season – but the Drivers’ Championship could already be decided this Sunday. Tom Oldenmenger heads to the Turkish Grand Prix with a 19-point lead over Sven Schubert and his first opportunity to secure the title in Istanbul.
For the Dutchman, it would crown an impressive debut season. In his first year in the VFC, the VEGA driver has established himself at the top of the standings through consistently strong performances. Now, he could become champion with two races to spare.
The maths is straightforward: After Turkey, only Fuji and São Paulo remain, with a maximum of 30 points available across the two races. A lead of at least 31 points would therefore guarantee Oldenmenger the championship.
These two combinations would put the title beyond doubt:
Tom Oldenmenger | Sven Schubert |
Win | 10th or lower, scoring no more than 3 points |
Second Place | No points |
Oldenmenger’s first title opportunity therefore also depends on how his closest rival performs. Schubert will be looking to deliver a strong result, close the gap wherever possible and postpone the celebrations. The experienced Optiminal driver will do everything he can to keep the battle for the VFC crown alive heading into the final two races.
That gives the Turkish Grand Prix added significance: While Schubert fights to keep his championship hopes alive, Oldenmenger and VEGA could be celebrating their defining moment in Istanbul.
