Optiminal Esports has answered one of the most exciting personnel questions ahead of the 2027 VFC season: Fabian Szyrzik will move from Horizon Motorsport to Optiminal Esports for the upcoming campaign. Following the announced departure of Heiko Kolvenbach, Optiminal has filled one of the most sought-after cockpits in the entire VFC field.
With Szyrzik, the team is not only bringing in an experienced driver, but also a strong technical mind. Alongside his experience on track, he brings valuable knowledge in the areas of setups and car development — a factor that could play an important role for Optiminal next season. His move to Optiminal already stands out as one of the most interesting personnel decisions for the 2027 season.
Meschede: “Nobody really saw this coming”
Team principal and reserve driver Rouven Meschede was clearly delighted with the signing and emphasized just how happy the team is to welcome Szyrzik:
“SURPRISE! I think nobody really saw this coming: Fabi is becoming part of Optiminal!
After some longer talks, Fabi and I quickly came to an agreement. We are incredibly happy to welcome him to the team, not only as a driver, but also because of his great knowledge in the field of setups and his experience as an engineer.
Since Fabi is naturally very busy due to his private commitments, we will share the cockpit if needed. That means you will probably see me more often in the VFC again as well. Our clear priority, however, is for Fabi to contest as many races as possible.
We really could not be happier to have Fabi with us.”
The special solution of a potentially shared cockpit gives Optiminal additional flexibility. At the same time, the sporting direction remains clear: Szyrzik is expected to race as often as possible and use his experience to make an important contribution to the team’s further development.
Szyrzik: “I simply could not pass up this opportunity”
Fabian Szyrzik himself is also looking forward to his new role at Optiminal Esports. For him, the move is a special opportunity that he did not want to miss:
“Championship-winning team, exceptional drivers with great talent… I simply couldn’t pass up this opportunity, especially since I honestly don’t know how much longer I’ll continue with competitive sim-racing. It’s already a very strong team, but I believe we can make it even stronger. As always, I’ll give my very best to help improve our car and overall pace by bringing my engineering perspective to the team. I’m confident we can push each other to the next level and build a strong, competitive lineup.”
For Optiminal Esports, signing Szyrzik sends a clear message. The team is not only relying on driving quality, but also on technical expertise and experience behind the scenes. Especially in a championship where development, setup work, and consistency can repeatedly make the difference, this combination could prove particularly valuable.
One thing is clear: with Fabian Szyrzik, Optiminal Esports gains a highly interesting reinforcement from Horizon Motorsport for 2027. And if Meschede does indeed return to the cockpit more frequently, the new season will gain another exciting storyline for Optiminal.
